Blurry old photo: sharpen it, and the faces above all
Missed focus, a shaky hand, a worn print: on a slightly blurry photo, Souvenotte doubles the size while cleaning up light blur, then rebuilds each face it detects separately. Heavy blur does not vanish entirely, and a very soft face is partly reinvented, so compare carefully before you pay.

How to digitise a blurry photo
- Don't add new blur
Lay the print flat and keep the phone parallel and steady. The tool handles light old blur, but fresh camera shake just stacks on top of it.
- Move closer, don't zoom
Fill the screen with the photo. Digital zoom on a phone adds softness rather than detail.
- Scanner: decent resolution
For a small print, 600 dpi is a common setting. See what resolution to scan at.
Steps for a blurry photo
- 1. Digitise Flat, steady, no glare: zoom in on screen to check the capture itself is sharp.
- 2. Upload JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 25 MB. A few seconds per photo.
- 3. Check the faces Drag the before/after slider and look at the eyes and mouth: is it still them?
- 4. Keep it Happy with it? HD without watermark for €1.99. If not, you pay nothing.
Blurry photos: what the tool does well, and what it misses
- Good at: faces Each detected face is cropped, rebuilt on its own and blended back in with a soft edge.
- Good at: light blur A mild lack of sharpness is cleaned up during the ×2 enlargement.
- Worth knowing: tiny or turned faces A face smaller than about 24 pixels, or turned well away, may not be detected: it is enlarged but not rebuilt.
- Worth knowing: rebuilt, not revealed On a very soft face, features are partly reinvented because the detail is no longer in the original. See does AI change faces?.
Frequently asked questions
Can it fix strong motion blur?
Not entirely. It handles light blur; strong motion blur stays partly visible, even though detected faces usually improve a lot.
Will the background be as sharp as the faces?
No. Faces get an extra dedicated pass. The rest of the image is cleaned and enlarged, but not rebuilt.
Will the restored face really look like them?
Often, when the original is only slightly soft. The blurrier it is, the more the tool has to guess. That is why the full preview is free: show it to someone who knew the person.
What does it cost?
The preview is free. HD without watermark is €1.99, or €9.99 for a pack of 10, with no subscription.
